One of the most effective horror novels that I've read to date. Truly a piece of -horror-. Upon finishing this I felt heavy headed and weary. I will absolutely be checking out more Ketchum in the future.

Wow! While this was a troubling story content wise, it was an extremely intense horror story that kept me wanting to know more. It was well written and Ketchum definitely knows how to hook his reader. I highly recommend it for the horror genre lovers out there. This one might actually give me nightmares!

Within the first 25 minutes they use a slur towards gay people and a slur towards mentally challenged people excessively. This is not a book about that or people dealing with that It was used gratuitously in conversation.  Yes I understand in the time period The book takes place, these words were used frequently but it does not mean you have to incorporate them into a book unless the book is directly about those situations or people involved in those situations. I think the author was pulling a Wilbur Smith or a Stephen King and just saying crap like that because they know they can get away with it because they are an author.

Read this in 2 sittings & it was 10 times more devastating to read knowing it is based on a true story.
