This is one of the strangest Spider-Man stories I’ve ever read, but that might be why I enjoyed it so much, haha.

In this Marvel original graphic novel, we see Spider-Man meet with who appears to be a 12 year old girl named Marandi Stjorokker. She immediately reveals that she knows his identity and even knows about his uncle Ben. After asking how she knows all this, she tells him she’s a long living sorcerer from another world. She travels to our world from time to time as there is a great danger back in her world and her family has been killed.
Spidey being the great hero he is, offers to travel back with her and help her defeat the danger, the Tordenkakerlakk from Cloudsea!

The plot and writing come from a Susan K. Putney to which I had never heard of and looking further into her work- well there is none. I can’t find other comic work from this person. Nevertheless, with this being her only work in Marvel, or just comics in general, it wasn’t too bad. The fantasy elements she puts Spider-Man in are different and cool for the character. It was like a classic fantasy adventure book. The story wasn’t anything crazy good but her efforts are appreciated and it does pick up as it goes. It’s fun, enjoyable, and she even gives a great voice to the web-head. She does overdue the dialogue, but as I mentioned she gives good characterization, so it’s never to the point of spoiling the story. The way I see it, Susan gave us a point A to point B kind of story and I can’t be mad about that.

The real shine of this read, and reason for the high rating, is of course the artist tied to the book. The LEGENDARY Bernie Wrightson! Bernie drawing Spider-Man??!! That alone should make you sign up and check this out! His work is immaculate in this short read! The detail and definition he puts into this one is so satisfying!! I loved his cool angles and close up panel shots, and of course his splash and spread pages are jaw-dropping too! You want to see Spider-Man battling a dragon?? Who better to draw that then Bernie FUCKING Wrightson! His inking and shading really makes the fantasy elements amplified. It reminds me a lot of those retro fantasy book covers. ONLY IT'S A WHOLE COMIC! Simply stunning and makes the read a must to check out! I might even have to look for an actual copy, cause it’s that damn good!

Overall; This is mainly for the artwork but for sure check this out if you want some unique and cool Spidey work. I promise you’ll never see anything else like it!

Really wholesome ending. Not so good storywise but it's worth reading.
