Self-indulgent crap fest of narsacistic ramblings by a drunk sociopath. Jesus this guy sucks.

I swear if only this guy could have met Franz. He and Kafka would probably have compounded each others sorrows to the point where they just decided to give up and drink themselves to death quietly in some corner and saved me the time contemplating the complex feelings their books make me consider.

Having spent most of my life in the company of debilitating mental illness, I could relate deeply with Yozo. His agreeableness combined with complete confusion as it relates to how other humans can (by all appearances) *just be* touched me greatly. Yes, his views on women (like the author’s) caused discomfort. But this was was written in 1948, I believe. Are we to read this with modern sensibilities and eyes? I certainly didn’t. I can appreciate this book as a piece of someone’s history and the writing was superb, regardless. I will definitely read more by Dazai.

I didn't really understand this one at first. I probably should have read it more carefully, but that's hard to do if you don't relate to the narrator at all.

Do you ever feel like writing this absolutely sad, emotional, dreadful vent? And then changing the names, adding some plot and calling it a original story. Well that’s exactly what Osamu Dazai did. I really don’t know how to review this piece considering that it’s partially his autobiography. And his final work. Because “No Longer Human” is nothing more than memories and reflections of a sick, depressed man. Maybe saying that Osamu committed suicide very soon after completing the book. Overall I can say that I have enjoyed reading it, but I also felt disturbed.

I’ll write a longer review later!!!

i needed to switch it up and honestly glad i reread this. forgot how dark and gory junji ito’s books can get. the fact that Oba found his passion in drawing manga yet everyone around him was clowning him for it, then became something that he no longer saw as an escape from reality kinda hit home 😻. i really loved that it goes in depth with his delusions, mental illnesses, etc. and was greatly drawn out. I LOVE JUNJI ITO

words can’t really describe my opinions for this book? like not in a “it left me speechless” but in a “how am i supposed to feel about that” there were parts that truly hit the nail on the head in terms of describing depression. other times i felt pity for yozo. other times i wanted to hit him upside the head. however all these complexities do create a very real person and for that it’s great
