It's the summer before senior year and Sebastian is at football (soccer) camp with the rest of his team, but this time he's captain. Then he unexpectedly finds one of his old childhood friends has joined the team and he has a desire to reconnect. And then Sebastian realises there's more to it than just wanting to be friends again.

I absolutely adored how inclusive the team was, but I also liked that Winters didn't make every team inclusive, just this one team. It would've been super unbelievable otherwise. The introduction of other teams was a good choice as it definitely showed readers just how close the Lions are; the terrible attitude of the other teams made the team stand together.

this was a nice easy read for me, although at times i got a little lost in the writing; it was a bit choppy. also, the character development wasn’t the greatest. i really didn’t like how grey’s character was portrayed, and i couldn’t fully invest myself in sebastian and emir as a couple.

It's so easy for me to give this five stars because it made me feel seen. it made my muslim queer heart feel easy. I loved every aspect of this book. the friendships between willie and mason and Sebastian. the family ties between carly and bastian and his mom. the length julian winters went to give emir's identity validation and love. not once did I question that this boy was loved. he did feel out of sorts with people and sure his identity of being a brown person played into it but those comments were always met with vehement denial. emir was affirmed by Sebastian, by other members of the team later on, that he did belong to the team, he was an essential part.

I adore the soft transition in Sebastian going from oh no emir hates me to him wanting to slip into the easy friendship they had. there were lots of moments where I just felt this incredible love for both of them. it felt like winters slipped into my brain and wrote a story befitting seventeen year old me.

Ah. I don’t lknow. 4? It made me feel things and kind of relate with Bastian. There is a lot of thing that he mentions that are true, things that I need to remind myself sometimes. I need to stop being such an asshole and coward. But I’m also very loved and certain mistakes and insecurities do not define or lessen the love of my family
