I've read a few Koontz books and have really enjoyed them. Pure eye or ear candy depending on the device I'm using. This one was not so good for me. The story just didn't grab me. And, the narration was a little weird, I thought.
The prose sprinkled throughout the book was off the charts in some spots. A bit much, almost as if Koontz put the accelerator down on his choice of words and analogies.
I'm not really big on sci-fi or fantasy and maybe that explains why I didn't enjoy this one as much. It was too far a stretch for me. The characters, although fleshed out to some degree just didn't connect with me. .

I don't think this is one of the stronger Koontz books. It felt to me very much like Odd Thomas but to the left, which wasn't really what I was hoping for.

Started off fun, with creative character development and witty dialogue, but devolved into a rushed and predictable second half.

Kind of a mixed bag for me. Main character gets pulled into a grand quest along with a handful of others, against some kind of other-universe cross-overs. Conveniently meeting up with each other, each with special psychic powers to fight the evil beings. Throw in an evil dark government agency, and a desert cult led by a billionaire with a giant ego. Enjoyed the touch of snarky humor here and there. Felt the ending didn't live up to the build up.

Overall , I enjoyed this story but it did lag in a few places. I had trouble connecting to the characters and the ending felt anticlimactic . It is an inventive plot.
