The story is intriguing, the prose is enjoyable. What I didn’t enjoy is it feels like a self-insert character for the author and the narrator already a little/very unlikable.
The narrator spends his time obsessed with a woman he does not know, which I find off putting. The ending makes me feel awful for the object of his affections. She is treated as an object in her life andafterlife . I wonder if the author ever considered this woman he invented as anything more than a beautiful woman to love. It’s hard to believe that he did.
