After reading Fallen a few months ago, I was eager to pick up the next book in the series, Torment. It didn’t disappoint and I was happy to find out even more about Daniel and Luce’s tragic past. However, is it just me or is anyone else seriously bothered by Daniel? I find him way too possessive and annoying. He’s overprotective and thinks he always knows what’s best for Luce. I’d like to see him back off in future books and let Luce make her own decisions. On the other hand, I am totally Team Miles! He is awesome and I love that he treats Luce with such respect. I want more of him in the next two books. I really think he’s the better choice and I hope Luce comes to her senses. I got this book from the library but I plan on getting my own copies some day because the covers are gorgeous. I love the gothic feel and the dresses that Luce is wearing on the cover. They really fit the tone of the entire series.

Ok the characters were better in this one. Although Luce is still annoying. And I want to strangle Daniel.

The synopsis
Lucinda is sure that she and Daniel are meant to be together forever. Now they are forced apart in a desperate bid to save Luce from the Outcasts–immortals who want her dead. Daniel brings Luce to the Shoreline School. A school where a special group is getting educated. The Nephilim, children of angels and humans. She learns to handle the shadows that have been chasing her all her live, she learns they hold messages from the past that can be seen and shadows can be used as transporters to the past. As she discovers more about her past lives, Luce starts to suspect that Daniel is hiding something. What if he has lied to her about their shared past? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

The review
In this book, same as in Fallen, a lot of questions stay unanswered. Every time you think you will learn something new, the story moves to another subject. Even her classmates and people you think are her friends don’t help her with information. The way this is handled is starting to get very annoying. Specially the excuses to avoid giving answers gives me the feeling it is done as an excuse to write another book.
The story was better written than Fallen. In Fallen the author sometimes forgot to explain details that would make the story complete. Now all I want are some answers, so I am going to read the penultimate book Passion but I do not think I will add this author to my favorite shelf.

Immediately after the events of Fallen Luce is taken to a new school where it's hoped she'll be safe (and, naturally, it goes wrong). She gets to see Daniel occasionally but spends most of the book digging round and trying to find out more about her past. We meet some new characters, learn a bit more about angels and watch Luce bumble from one disaster to the next as she tries to lay low.

Found it a little harder to actually get through than the first (even though I finished it in less time) but I think that could be down to me just not being used to reading a series rather than a standalone. Definitely reccomend though, I really enjoyed it
