4.5. This book was both very alarming and very cathartic, I don't know how else to put it.

This poetry book is about violence against women, and often the romanticization of it.

I picked this poetry collection at a library because one of my goals before I'm 30 is to write more poetry, so logically the first step was to read more poetry to essentially learn what to do. This collection helped me realise what modern poetry is, that is doesn't necessarily have to rhyme, that it's more to do with creating feeling, an impact which Olivia Gatwood does beautifully. I like how the colle tion was organized, how you can see the growth in the pages, particularly when the bits about the babysitter come up. I'm glad I read this collection as it's inspired me to write, showing me the different structures and styles of writing you can use in poetry. The collection has themes of feminism, womanhood, true crime, abuse, growing up and many more.
