It was all too cookie cutter perfect. Everything Vivian did was cute and admirable and Quin was ever obliging and following any of Vivian's whims. The lack of conflict made this book kind of boring and one note. It also spent so much time on the mundane, like Vivian figuring out how to talk to the computer and put away the food or Vivian exploring the ship and trying to slip away from her guards or Vivian going to the cafeteria ten times. I honestly didn't care about reading any of that. Won't be reading the rest of the series.

Summary: Quin's warship intercepts a slaver brothel where he finds a brutally victimized Vivian and realizes she's his mate. He takes her back to his ship and spends the majority of the book trying to not spook her and win her trust.

Update:
So I've given this book another chance but it really wasn't worth it. I didn't like the characters, plot or romance.

DNF. I just wasn't in the right mood for this book. I wanted a light fluffy sci-fi romance and this one was heavy on emotions and difficult topics like forced sexual slavery and abuse etc. I'm a mood reader, so I'll just have to give this book another go when I'm in the right mood for emotional sci fi romance.

I've read a lot of books like this- interesting, but nothing really new. I did however like the fact that Quin was not an obnoxious overbearing alpha male type. He had controlling tendencies, but actually took the time to listen to Viviane. Also, beware of the heavy emotional aspects about kidnapping, rape and revenge.

On kindle unlimited, so if your in the mood for a quick sci-fi alien romance would suggest you pick it up.

This had everything I love about alien romance in it. I was really impressed by the world building, some minor things didn’t make sense. The gruff, softie, large hero is one of my favorites. He’s a killer but his female can walk all over him. The heroine was not a TSTL one. I had noticed this book when it first released but the cover was off putting for me. I got annoyed when there were times when a past event was retold. It was told in great detail- almost exactly as the first time. The first meeting of the hero and heroine was told to everyone over and over. Couldn’t that have been summed up? There were several things left unanswered too. Overall I enjoyed it. I want to see what happens with Kols girl.

Disliked Vivian. She was too childlike and simple. She was not attracted to Quinn. There was no relationship development so the sudden drastic change at 68% was unbelievable. The plot dragged with Vivian's juvenile escapades and the warriors' inept bumbling attempts to keep up with her.

I used to hate the whole sci fi alien romance subgenre but I decided to try once that I'd heard so much about, which drug me into a huge series that I actually loved. Now I'm way more inclined to give books like this a chance. Lots of times they atrocious but sometimes, like with this book, I find something that I truly enjoyed. I thought Haven 1: Ascend was an interesting and entertaining read. I really liked Vivian's strength and her ability to overcome the horrendous things she'd endured and her ability to find and claim her own happiness in the end. As always I love a Male main character who is truly devoted to his woman and Quin was definitely that. I really appreciated the way the author treated consent between the characters, essentially given the back story. Definitely a good read for me and I'll be on the lookout for the next in this series.

What’s not to like about a woman who has been (literally) beat down and finds the spark within to build herself back up? Vivian was a badass.
