This book was beautifully written and got a lot darker than I expected. I took a long time reading it, mostly because the chapters in the past made me very anxious. I definitely think that they were well done, but I was not always in the right headspace to continue reading, so I took my time with it. I felt very connected to both Byron in the past and Jim in the present, and sad as their stories are, I like how the book ended. Not my usual genre but I might pick up more by this author now.
Graphic: Suicide and Death of parent
Moderate: Car accident
Minor: Domestic abuse and Classism

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The story took a while to get going but I was deeply absorbed into the world and the language and the emotional impact of the reveal towards the end was very powerful.

Moderate: Ableism, Medical content, and Car accident
Minor: Fatphobia, Homophobia, Infidelity, Self harm, Suicide, Alcohol, and Classism
Some discussion of electric shock therapy.
