I enjoyed reading SHADES OF MIDNIGHT because I'm loving this series so much and every book brings us deeper into the battle between the Order and Dragos. This time the story takes us to Alaska where the Ancient has escaped and is wreaking havoc on the innocent town of Harmony. I was a bit surprised with how things progressed but it'll make things really interesting for the next book.

I liked both Kade and Alex but I have to admit I never fully connected with them like I have past couples. Kade keeps everything close to the chest and I never felt like we really saw what was underneath until close to the end. That being said, I did love the way he interacts with Alex and how he's so sweet with her once he starts to catch feelings.

Content Warning: Brief reference to side character considering suicide after losing her family

This was not one of my favorite Breed book, but I did like that it deviated from Adrian's usual formula in a couple of ways. First, it takes place in Alaska, not Boston like 90% of her previous books. Second, the breedmate has some past experience with the Breed society (albeit a negative experience), so she is more accepting of the news that Vampires exist. Lastly, there were some interesting developments with the Ancient that were surprising to me.
Overall, this was another enjoyable read and I look forward to the next one in the series.

I have read Shades of Midnight a couple of times. There is so much within this story that had me up late into the night. Kade has been with the Order for the past year but now has to return home to Alaska. There has been a posting of suspicious deaths that must be investigated.

Alex is a bush pilot out of Harmony, Alaska. When she stumbles across a massacre she is forced to relive the deaths of her mom and little brother back in Florida. Alex's turmoil can be felt throughout the story. My heart hurt for her.

Kade is supposed to scrub her mind, but that won't be possible. Their romance grows as bodies drop. Kade's investigation brings more of the Order. Violence rips through Alaska but the humans won't remember. The reader will remember. The descriptions, the sounds, the bodies. The ending will have you rushing to buy the next book.

11/12/19 The audiobook had be finding more things to do outside so I could continue listening. Holy Woozers the thrills, the chills, the love, the deceit.

Some interesting twists and turns in this one!

I loved the Narrators voices for this one, usually they sound accented Russian/ Spanish, this was great as they sounded a little different. that's not to say i don't like the others just really liked this!

Alex "Skill" wasn't as interesting as some of the previous breed mates and didn't play a huge part in the story, but Kade's skill for me is the most awesome by far!

Deception, lust love and closure, i will be sad to leave Alaska I hope Lara Adrian takes us for a trip back there soon!

Again another great book by L Adrian, I really enjoys this book even though I'm not as connected with Kade as a character but still love it anyway. I come to realise that with this writer you can all depend on a book making you want laugh, cry, gasp and hold your breath. Anybody that loves vampires romance sex and sexy men with weapons these books are a MUST on your "want to read". Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

As this is the seventh book in the "Midnight Breed" series, Kade's character was already familiar to me, but it was nice to get to know him a bit better.

I liked Alex, and I liked Kade, and I liked them together, but this was not my favorite book of the series. The build-up was similar to other books in the series, and I appreciate the continuation of the whole Ancient-Dragos drama, but I just did not connect with Kade and Alex in the way I have with other characters.

The sex scenes were decidedly more intimate and... tame, I guess, than I remember from previous books in the series. I attribute that to Alex's existing fear of vampires/Rogues, and Kade's need for her to see him as more than a monster.

My heart broke for Kade at the end, but I was glad that Alex was there for him, and still wanted to be his mate. Also, I loved "seeing" the spark of something for Brock.

While Shades of Midnight did not blow me out of the water, it was a good read in a great series, and I am certainly eagerly awaiting the release of Taken by Midnight.
