Heartwarming story, very relaxing to read to rise the mood, classic lovestory friends to lovers, first only friends with benefits but they overcome their bonding issues and get together

I listened to this audiobook on Spotify, absolutely loveeed Jake's voice actor.
Jess' voice actress umm not so much I was actually bored listening to her POV (Sooo many, TOO many! of her chapters where flashbacks... Like, what was the reason??).

They're both a mess emotionally.

He's just a fool that's in love with her, but the man is so oblivious that it gives me a headache. Get a hint!!!

She's too insecure. Just doesn't let go of the past and screws up her own relationships.
I would love to see her more open and lively and confident in herself and life.

they're roommates, he overhears her talking on the phone and saying she's short on money to pay rent. So he pays for her without her noticing.
he remembers and makes her pancakes the way her dad used to do.
he waits for her under the rain in central park

"The track changes to one of Bieber’s latest tunes and I know Jess will ramp up the moves. She loves Bieber, no matter how much I tell her that at thirty, she’s too old for him. I will admit that his latest stuff isn’t awful. But I’d never say that to her."

"There’s a very big part of me that’s designated solely for Jess, babe."

"Spend my life with Jess? I can’t imagine my life any other way. Of course, I want her forever. She’s Jess. My Jess. Her and me, against the world. But I can’t work out that first part. If I wasn’t too afraid to accept it. Does she wish we could be more than friends? Is she saying she’d accept someone else for the rest of her life but not me?"

"A sexy as sin man who valued family and friends, who wasn’t ready to flee to some remote part of the world next week."

"She was part of me. I was part of her. We were two halves of a whole."

"You want something to hold on to? Take my heart. Take my ring. And every time you look at it you can think of this… I can’t make you a promise to be by your side in this form forever. But I can vow that no matter what happens, in sickness and in health, I will forever be by your side, in this life, and the next. And, if one day, many years from now, we are up there somewhere, I will shake your father’s hand, and I will kiss your mom on the cheek, and I will tell them a thousand times, “Thank you for giving me your daughter.” And I’ll do it all with you tucked under my arm."

"Marry me. Take my ring and every time you feel afraid, hold it, and know that you hold my heart. Let me be your roots, Jess. Let me be your forever home.’"

"‘Twelve,’ he says when I reach him. It takes me a second to understand. ‘You’re a twelve. You’ve always been a twelve.’

The way he looks at me, like he’s looking at something precious for the first time, I know he means it."

"‘In this life and the next, babe.’ ‘In all our forms.’ ‘Forever.’"

Major major issues.
Fat phobic comments
Necrophillia term mentioned AND FOR WHAT PURPOSE?!
The contents was honestly either triggering or made no sense. The arrangement between Jake and Jess really had me confused.
None of them were likeable. Jess felt rather dense and Jake was just, sleazy and his attitude OMG no

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm really sorry to say this, but this book was not for me.

I thought it was going in one direcion, but it was actually the opposite.

Reading the prologue I got the idea the story was going to be a second chance romance. Nope. Not at all. It's fine, I'm not saying it isn't, but I felt like the prologue was a bit misleading.

For me personally, this book failed to make me feeling attached to the characters. I glanced over many chapters about Jess's past, they were too much too read. Not because they were sad, I menan, they were but not only that, but because they focused too much on her trauma. It was something the reader needed to know, to understand present Jess of course, but they were too much fixated on her being hurt in the past.

Jake... it was refreshing to find this book POVs mainly about the male character, something that doesn't happen so often. But that's the only refreshing thing I can think about in this book. I didn't like him that much, he thought too much about himself, when he realised his feelings for Jess were deeper than he actually first thought, he pressed her too much, uncaring of her boundaries.

Maybe this is supposed to be seen as a healthy relationship? I don't think it is. Jess has deep problems in committing to anything, being living in a place for longer than a few months or a relationship. She caved too soon, I mean, I got the idea that once Jake realised he loved Jess immediately forgot about her past pain and decided it was okay to be with him.

Friends With Benefits is the 3rd book in the Brits in Manhattan series by Laura Carter. Like the other books, it can easily be read as a standalone, though reading the whole series makes me feel like I know the characters better. Friends With Benefits is my favorite book in the series so far.

This story has us following Jake (The Law of Attraction Drew's younger brother) and his roommate/best friend Jess, who are visiting Drew from the UK. Most of the book is told from Jake's point of view, though some chapters from Jess's are sprinkled throughout, mostly to provide the backstory of why she's afraid of relationships. While I usually prefer a more even or primarily female perspective in books, I actually really enjoyed Jake's point of view.

Unlike the first 2 books, Friends With Benefits primarily takes place in the Hamptons along the beaches of Long Island. I enjoyed this beach setting and the gathering of so many characters that I've come to know throughout the series. I enjoyed the relationship and chemistry between Jake and Jess, and though the "friends with benefits" relationship seemed a bit complicated, I enjoyed the closeness the two shared right from the beginning. I really like how things ended in this book, and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the free advance copy of Friends With Benefits! The opinions expressed in my review are completely my own.

Thank you Boldwood books and netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Jake and Jess' relationship. The angst & emotion, their arrangement, I really liked it all. Although I found their feelings very obvious and I didn't quite understand why they couldn't just get together when they had a clear sexual attraction, I still enjoyed the read!

I'm excited to read the next book in this series!

If you're looking for a friends with benefits to lovers, only one bed trope, I'd recommend this book!!
