the only reason i put the characters down as complicated when asking if they are loveable, is because i find them loveable, but i probably shouldn’t. this book was so so so good and i’m obsessed

one thing that annoyed me was scarlett. i feel like she completely contradicted her character in the first book. she made me really mad at times.

Spoiler
i found the ending a little predictable. since the first book i suspected dante was legend. there were some aspects that i didn’t expect. i did NOT expect dante to save her and then just leave like nothing happened with them. that broke my heart.

After suffering through Scarlett’s POV in the first book, I was glad to get a story from Tella’s perspective.

Tells doesn’t romanticize the world as much as Scarlett, but she’s not without her boy troubles.

We finally get to meet Jacks.  Having read OUABH first, I already had my opinions formed of him.
SpoilerI’m definitely rooting for him to end up with Evangeline, so I wasn’t too upset that Tella did want him.
Spoiler It sure allowed for amazing banter though.

SpoilerDante/Legend can be extremely frustrating, but you see glimpses of his feelings for Tella.
Spoiler I love the teasing and the banter between the two.

I also really enjoy seeing Scarlett and Julian’s relationship from Tella’s POV.  From Scarlett’s perspective, the reader might also question whether it is all real, but from Tella’s perspective you can really see how much Julian cares for Scarlett.

This installment was much better than the first and I’m looking forward to Finale.  I think I’ll actually read OUABH and TBONA again before the last one comes out.

I liked this book a lot more than Caraval, although I think I rated it slightly lower - the main reason being that Donatella really failed to grab my heart for the first half of the book, and with it my attention.  This book took a minute to find its identity - the setting itself isn't as strong as in the first book, and while it was nice to see more of the world, it felt so weird how distant we were from Scarlett throughout this entire story.

As Tella grew more desperate in her plight and more willing to sacrifice bits of herself to be an active agent in her own story, I started to understand her more and I grew to like her even more than Scarlett.  Tella is so spicy and she's not afraid to fight literally anybody, and I love that about her.

Also, as someone who started this series by reading Once Upon A Broken Heart, Jacks absolutely steals the scene any time he's on the page.  It's fun to see this earlier iteration of him - a villain playing a game that he's already lost by the first time I met him.

Also, I really enjoy the fact that Dante is mean to be the "better" of the two love interests, but also there's not really a love triangle, and also he's an asshole and a bastard anyway.  Donatella's attraction to him is so real, but as he bares himself to her, her love for him makes sense, too.

As always, the biggest thing in a book I fall in love with is the characters and their relationships.  Stephanie Garber writes a brilliant morally-grey character in every page of her stories.  Her prose is fun and unique, and her metaphors are really unique and stick out in your mind so strongly.  It's been really enjoyable to go back and see where her writing started compared to where it is now.  Ugh, I love her.

My jaw is on the floor. I'm in shock. I think I enjoyed this book more than the 1st one. More is at stake and so .uch more twist and moments.

I didn’t like the sequel to Caraval as much as I enjoyed the first novel. The plot seemed somewhat disjointed, kind of like there were too many things going on and there wasn’t enough explanation of any of them. I love the characters still and the bad boy is even easy to love, which isn’t always easy to do. I am looking forward to getting some closure with the last novel of this series.

If I could I’d give it more than 5 stars cause omg it’s amazing. I’m actually at a loss of words. I didn’t think the sequel was gonna be as good as the first book but it seems that the jokes on me cause it was equally good if not better. I recommend everyone read it. It’s def one of my favorites. The twists and turns just keep coming and I was on the edge of my seat. I may have gone through quite the emotional roller coaster but it was worth it for all the surprises. Some of which I made guesses at for fun but then got surprised by when they where revealed to be true. I’m just shook. Omg… also I gotta say that I love the last chapter with the annotations from the author, it’s so wonderful to read and see her thoughts. And I also love that she makes playlists for each book. I’m so excited to start Finale and see how everyone’s stories will end<333
