I'm impressed. So many of the series I've read lately have had sequels that have made me doubt that sequels should even exist anymore. Thankfully, this book proved my theory wrong! It was a fantastic continuation of Poison Princess!

Starting up right were we left off with Matthew, Jackson, Evie, Selena, and Finn just defeating The Hermit and having the story line flow so smoothly throughout the book was definitely a pro! Finn funny banter between the other characters here and there was a nice mood brightener when most everything else was pretty depressing. Also, seeing Jackson and Evie's relationship continue to take multiple hits in the wrong direction after he finds out about her abilities was a little heart-wrenching, but it fares well later on...after having to skip some pages due to questionable acts going on between Jack and Evie (...thought this was YA Cole???) we see things start going down hill shortly after for our little band of characters, and QUICK!

Here comes DEATH!

I have to say that my favorite character and parts of the entire book was/included Death! With his 'I could care less but I'm secretly pining away for you' attitude throughout keeps you wanting more and more! After you make it back to Death's house (totally AMAZING) you really start to see the relationship between Death and Evie bloom. I loved that you got to see Death open up (although extremely slowly) to Evie and her pestering until he tell her that in one of their past lives ...*pause for effect*... they were MARRIED!!! SAY WHAT!?!? And that he can never get over her 1) She is the only one that he can touch without killing 2) see #1. So yeah, things go up hill for them from there with Evie and Death actually getting along and getting to know one another.

Then Death has to go and crush Evie's heart by saying that Jack killed Evie's mother and all of these other completely shocking details until you think that there can't possibly be anything more! But there is and it leaves you absolutely loathing Jack to no end. (Enter Bella Swan like depression state for 1 month following the truth surrounding Jack.)

This is where I started getting frustrated with Evie. She keeps wanting Jack even after finding out all of the freaking horrific details about the things he's done and the reasoning behind those acts and I just wanted to B-Slap that girl! This continues for the remainder of the book. We do get to see some action between Death...or should I call him Aric now... and Evie UNTIL she starts thinking of Jack again and goes to screw everything up!

The books ends with a major cliff hanger in which Death is pissed after Evie breaks the mood between them after finding out that Jack has been captured by the evil Lover Twins who torture people to no end and decides that, whether Death likes it or not, she will go and save the ever betraying Jack. Death agrees to this, but not until he makes her his...

Overall, it was a great book (excluding those questionable parts) and one that I wouldn't mind reading again. I am definitely a Death/Aric fan and can't wait to see what will become of our friends in third book in this series 'Dead of Winter'.

This book and maybe series have the polarizing effect that, the characters are really not likeable but the story is really interesting. This was solid.

LOVE this series! The second book is just as good as the first if not better! Dialogue is superb. Full of action. Just like in the Fever series (by Karen Marie Moning) our heroine has grown up since the first book. I'm glad Evie wasn't stuck in the helpless girlie stage.

Worth every star!

I really enjoyed this as the 2nd book, I finished it in two days. Definite felt sucked into this world, wanting evie and her friends to be safe. And now there are feelings for death. I'm ready for book three!

Rereading the first three books so I can continue/finish the series. It’s been 10 years since I last read these books and it’s interesting reading this book at 27 vs 17. There’s a lot I overlooked back then that is now hard for me read and accept. Evie is a young girl and the men in these books are not it. She frankly deserves better. I don’t like this possessiveness everyone has over a young teenage girl that’s just trying to survive not only an apocalypse but also a game to the death. She’s vulnerable and young. Okay sure she’s seen a lot more than the average 16/17 year old, but you can still see her youth in a lot of this book and it makes me sad. That fact that I first read this when I was 17 years old and I was enthralled by death and dreamed of being with someone like him I think is proof that age matters. Now I’m uncomfortable reading certain scenes in this book and thinking of myself 10 years ago in those situations. Of course, this is all fiction but it’s a young adult novel, younger readers might not see harm in any of it just like I didn’t 10 years ago. This would absolutely be a 5 star read if Evie was just a little bit older.
(My review from 10 years ago is somewhere on here just a different cover of this book, not sure why the reviews didn’t merge like they normally do on rereads?)

Horrendous and phenomenal all at once, the writing is likely the worst thing I've ever read but it was exactly what I needed and it was fun so I'd have to say that I loved this

I LOVE this book, but I have one major issue with it (and with the series itself): main character Evie. She watches a solitary snowflake fall from the sky, and she believes it’s a sign. Death is cold. Death is her destiny! But what about Jack? Death? Jack? Death? Jack? Death? Death. Jack? ...Death? Death. (Jack?)

FLIP A COIN ALREADY.
