I thought the concept of the book was interesting - your typical dystopian/sci fi types. Whipped through the book in less than 8 hours and immediately wanted more.

I wish there were fewer characters to focus on because it felt that what I knew about each of them was very limited. The transitions between each character felt very abrupt in the beginning, but I got used to it after a while.

Not really sure how to say this but, i wish the book had been longer? even though it's part of a series, this book felt too short for me. It felt like a teaser trailer, and it's pretty frustrating because I kept wanting to find out more and more, only for it to end right when things were getting insanely interesting.

The book was not say very action packed and fast paced, but i moved through it so quickly because the change in POVs made the book interesting and made me curious to find out more. i'm hoping for extended fighting scenes, more drama and hopefully a lot more things to go wrong in book 2, in order for the narrative to be stuffed full with interesting points and subplots.

Characters were amazing. i thoroughly enjoyed reading about their personal sacrifices, struggles etc. I'm hoping for more development and growth in the coming book, but as of now I think that expanding on their backstories seemed like a great ide. Helps with how I envisioned all of them to be, and definitely makes the whole reading experience a lot better.

Ending was your typical cliffhanger, while it was interesting, I would not say that it was the best note to end the story on. It was kind of predictable, and when I read the ending it was kind of like "oh...yea i saw that coming." it did put the story on a whole different angle, and i hope to see a more suspenseful and action packed plot in book 2.

A really quick easy read, it is completely different from the show so do not go into this book expecting it to be similar or expecting to see the same characters that you love from the show, it felt like not much happened in this book. I will be continuing on with the series, I do want to see the different route the books take compared to the show, and see how it plays out.

An absolutely solid sci-fi book. The writing is fairly simple but given that this is a YA book, that’s not a bad thing.

The flashbacks in the middle of many of the chapters made things a bit jarring. At times it was hard to remember where in time we were for the flashback and then what was happening when we returned to the present.

So I get this is a futuristic society. But everyone had fairly normal names. And then there was Glass. Just like… who names a kid Glass?

While the story was good and the plot seemed to move along at an appropriate pace, outside of survival there really wasn’t a goal or story. There was no climax. Just suddenly… oh, we’re not the only people on earth.

The concept of this book was really great, but the characters were just not that likable. They were so busy with their own teen drama that they didn't notice other people, so they seemed rather egoistic. The plot was also not that great, I felt like nothing spectacular happened.

Definitely not much of a comparison between the book and the show--I like what another Goodreads user wrote saying that the book and the tv show are more like distant cousins.

As for a review on the book, I think it does accomplish what it attempts. The author seems to focus more on the interpersonal, human element, especially focusing on the individual relationships between a few key characters. There were some sweet moments between the characters and I loved imagining the safety that one felt with their beloved. I don't think the book alone captivated me to keep reading. If I did keep reading, it would only be to see what is different between the book and the tv show. All in all, not a terrible read in and of itself, however, not necessarily for me.

Fast paced and easy to read but I can't say it's anything wow. I recommend reading it after a heavier book, as it doesn’t take much brain power to get through it.
