“Words were inadequate, but all he had. He didn't know where they came from or why, but it was how we told one another what the world was and might be. Who we were, and might become. It was the only magic he had. Everything else was faith. He felt blessed and grateful.”
➽ This is a historical fiction following Charles Dickens and how he came to write A Christmas Carol! As a big fan of the classic, I was excited to see the author reimagine his life. Dickens is trying his hardest to come up with his next great idea, as he needs the money and something good to follow up his success. With family issues and writer's block, he quickly finds himself desperate and alone in London, trying to come up with anything that might sell. I liked the historical atmosphere and take on Charles Dickens' life, there were even some twists and turns that kept me guessing! The only questionable thing was him getting obsessed with a local theatre worker, it felt very inappropriate, as he had his family to think of.

I was looking for a good Christmas story and am glad I chose this one. When I finished I felt warm and Christmas-y, just like being wrapped up in a blanket in front of a fire while reading.
