I loved this book when I was in high school, and I remember the ending vividly.

I read this book as a child and spent years searching for it again. I recently rediscovered it and was thrilled to reread it. Though not exactly as I remembered it, it is indeed the book I remember from my youth.

Silverdale, Colorado is almost too good to be true, especially the high school football team. The boys are bigger and stronger than most kids, and the sports center they use for training is state of the art. But is the training and vitamin regimen the doctor has them on really harmless?

I definitely had to keep in mind the time frame when this was written, as much of what happened would never fly the way it did these days. It was still an enjoyable read.

Rounding up from 3.5.

Pop Sugar Reading Challenge-a book that takes place during the 1980s.

Suspensful and creepy, but I felt unsatisfied at the end. There was a character I wanted to know about what happened to after.

And this has nothing to do with the enjoyment level of the book, but I found it odd that there was a character named Phil Collins. This book was written in 1989. Phil Collins was well known back then. And the character was constantly referred to by his first and last name.

Finished this tonight, and although it is similar to many other "enhanced people" stories (like perhaps The Stepford Wives) it has enough things different to still make it entertaining. And I loved the ending - I didn't quite cry, but it left that sort of emotion.

4 1/2 stars. This is the first John Saul book that I've read and I was not disappointed. The story was very easy to get into and the characters were very well developed. It reminded me a bit of The Stepford Wives with the seemingly perfect town. A bit predictable at times but overall, a great October read.
