Y’all did we read the same book? Because this was BAD. First off, the writing is horribly amateurish and cringey. The “Man Eater Crew”? Seriously?

Second, the characters are so poorly crafted and two-dimensional. They have no substance whatsoever.

Third, the heteronormative bullshit in this … I can’t. It’s so obviously written by a straight woman, and for who? Certainly not those of us who identify as queer. This book just screams ‘male gaze’, even if the author is female.

And last and most important, the plot of this is a sexual assault survivor decides to seek revenge by using another woman? Red fucking flag.

When I found out Ms. Darling was going to release a new book I was so excited.
I didn’t even read the blurb or have an idea what the book was about.
Other than it was a Giana Darling novel.
So when I got my hands on it I went in blind.
I had no clue it was a Sapphic romance. This is my first reading experience in this genre.
It’s not the type of romance stories that pique my interest.
But I’m glad I didn’t know what the book was about and read it.
It’s a very intense story. It’s raw and gritty.
It’s so much more than just a sapphic love story.
I loved the showcasing of women empowerment that was highlighted in the book.
I loved dark academia. And I love retelling of tales, this one of Medusa.
I most definitely have read about Medusa and her turning men to stone.
But I did not know her whole story. Well know I do. It was shocking and so sad.
Lex and Luna were incredible characters.
While they are exact opposites of each other. They definitely complement one another.
Both are strong. But in different ways.
Both want justice. But each has their differences on how to go about this.
Lex is dark to Luna’s light. Lex is guarded to Luna’s carefree nature.
But the intensity between them is real and comes to life off the pages.
There is an energy between them that is so dynamic.
I have to say a lot of the writing was very poetic.
I appreciated that very much. It gave such enrichment to the story.
And the traumatic scenes were written powerfully.
A lot was explored in the book. It was food for thought. And left a lasting impression on me.

A love story to literature mixed with a story of feminine rage and healing. What is better revenge or justice - are they the same? And ultimately, a story about the power of women coming together and supporting each other.

I love a good feminist vigilante story as much as the next person, but I did not enjoy this book. Points for the message of it and bringing awareness, but that’s about it. One MC was toxic and borderline abusive, and the other just went along with it like she was a puppy following her owner.

Some of the plot twists shocked me, but I wanted so much more from this book.
