Throughout the book, I enjoyed it but felt like the whole plot was centered around such a cliche - that woman have to choose between a family or a career, and that’s all there is to life. It was hard for me to get past sometimes, as well as how genuinely dumb Tully could be. She was such a selfish, bad friend at times it wasn’t even believable 

However there are a few redeeming factors for me in this book that ultimately had it good:
I think how she wrote about Kate and Marah’s relationship was beautiful and real and heartbreaking, and I ultimately think this book is about motherhood. And the last 50ish pages of this book really strengthened it for me - how she wrote about grief and cancer and death was so well done and poignant and devastating

One of the saddest books I have read, had me sobbing on the floor, but do read it, I promise it’s worth it.

A beautiful coming of age novel about two friends that couldn’t be more different, and yet mutually thrive when together. Beging when Kate and Tully are in eighth grade and following their lives for over three decades, this book features incredible character development and personal growth.

Desperate to be seen and heard after a childhood of neglect, Tully attempts to fill her life with success and romance, pulling Kate along for the ride. Tully dreams of being on television and becoming a star, while Kate secretly yearns for a quiet life filled with laughter and love. As these friends embark on wildly different life journeys, their friendship is tested many times, through jealousy, betrayals, and secrets, it prevails through all of the hardship. Tully and Kate have been faced with all of the challenges the world can dump on them, and yet get through it together.

Recommend for those who live a good coming of age friendship-centered tale, and a good cry.

Loved following the friendship of Kate and Tully over several decades. It was very easy to get attached to them and their lives and to feel like a part of their world. I missed them both when I finished the book and have listened to it a couple of times since. A lot easier to follow than the TV series as events are chronological.

Parts were slow moving, as the book is heavily focused on relationships. There were hard parts and I experienced the full range of emotions throughout my reading - anxiety, rage, love, sadness. I recommend this read as long as you've got Kleenex ready and someone to hug when you finish!

Can’t possibly review when I’m still sobbing. Not enough tissues.

I’ve read one other Kristin Hannah book, The Four Winds. The pacing was similar, long and tedious at first, with enough to keep you interested but definitely able to put it down. But then the last quarter of the book is emotional as all get out and impossible to quit.
