I haven't read any of the other author's books. This was fun. I liked the artstyle.

Maxim definitely has a lot to learn. Like thinking with his head and listening to others for instance. I like his dynamic with Isra.

I dunno how it works in books, but magic looks hella cool in visuals.

Cool artwork, but I feel like a lot of info is missing. I know this is a prequel to a story I haven’t read yet, but I would have liked a bit more explanations on the magic system. However, I still enjoyed it and will finish the next two volumes either today or tomorrow.

I love that we get to learn more about Maxim and outside of Red London, glad to get even more world building before the release of Threads of Power. I wonder if what Maxim said, about spells not lasting and wanting to unite the worlds again, will be a plot point in Threads of Power?

I read this knowing absolutely nothing about the Shades of Magic series. Since it’s a prequel I thought I’d try it to get a visual basis before I jump into the books. As a comic, it’s alright. I’m not a huge fan of the art style. As far as story, I don’t feel any sort of attachment to the characters. But, I’m still invested enough to continue with the second graphic novel and I definitely plan on rereading this once I’ve read the whole series.
