A cute collection of autobiographical comic strips about Rachael's break-up, depression, the black dog, the support of friends and her cat, and the way she manages to put her life back together. It's always good to see more books tackling the stigma of mental health with authors being open, honest and candid about their own experiences. I have been through my share of break-ups and the downward spiral that follows them, so could completely relate to Rachael and the stages she goes through, and am equally grateful to the friends and therapists that were there to help me through. This little self-published book is highly recommended.

A funny and candid autobiography of the author's 18 months after a break-up told in single-page, 4-panel colour comics with warmth and wit (and the occasional longer or shorter section). Hugely relatable and laugh-out-loud funny, Stand in Your Power also tackles serious topics such as self-harm and avenues for help with mental health such as therapy and medication. The personal style and approachable visuals give this book the feel of a supportive conversation and overall highlight the importance of kindness and friendship in the process of moving on.

Another excellent graphic mediation on depression, this time after a break-up. Rachael Smith allows us entry into her personal life in a way that is touching, hilarious, and so relatable it's actually scary. Much like Wired Up Wrong, if you are someone dealing with the Black Dog (in this case, Barky), then pick it up and feel that feeling that you're not alone.
