This is the best of the Witcher novels, thus far, though it can't quite beat out the short story collection Sword of Destiny for my favorite Geralt of Rivia story. Frankly, this entire series seems a bit aimless, and Baptism of Fire was no different in that regard. There are a lot of words here with not a whole lot actually happening. That being said, the character work here is absolutely engrossing. I feel a deep connection to Geralt and his companions. Dandelion, Milva, Regis, Cahir, Zoltan? I love 'em, and I feel like I know 'em. That takes a special kind of authorial talent, so even though I am not fully enraptured by Sapkowski's books, I find I'm loving them anyway.

This has been a great series with character development as important as plot.

After a dissapointing read of Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire was a fantastic read and journey, it feels like a focused journey of Geralt and those who join his mission. Best of the series so far.
