Eeep that ending! I really love this series and these characters so much. The way Kiersten White makes the world of the Arthurian tales her own is truly fascinating and it is so fun to read. The female characters (specifically Guinevere and Lancelot) in this series are my favorites. Lowkey in love with Lancelot. We all need loyal lady knight like Lancelot in our lives, like!! Can’t wait to read the next book!

Edit: I see the next book won’t be out until December

"I am never in the dark when I am protecting you."

Synopsis
All is well once more in Camelot, but Guinevere isn't at peace. Realizing the anxiety she's feeling has a lot to do with her own inner turmoil, she starts looking for ways to solidify her role as Queen and become comfortable in her own skin.

What I Liked
- This is one of those rare second installments in a trilogy that is better than the first book, but also makes you appreciate the first book more. Guinevere's character takes on a lot more depth, and her relationships with the people around her continue to grow in exciting and sometimes unexpected ways.
- Female friendships are at the forefront in this book, and I'm allllll about a well-formed girl group.
- One of the struggles I found most compelling with Guinevere in this book was her having to make decisions for the good of her kingdom above everything. Several times she was forced into situations with less than ideal choices, and then she had to deal with the consequences of her decisions.
- I never thought I would be so invested in the three potential "ships" we've got going on, but here we are.

Age Rating
Pretty solid Young Adult, maybe 14+

Who I Would Recommend This Book To
Fans of Arthurian legend, but with better female representation!

Content to Watch Out For
Violence, death, reference to domestic abuse, kidnapping

This book does not suffer from second book syndrome. I enjoyed every sentence that I've read. The twists keep twisting, the turns keep turning, the revelations keep getting revealed. The characters are getting even more fleshed out in this one and I couldn't put the book down.

The female relationships and the clear love that Brangien, Dindrane, Guinevere, Lancelot have for each other is something that brought tears to my eyes.

I truly cannot recommend this series enough.

Spoiler I’m going to come back and change this rating if she ends up with Arthur. His “goodness” feels almost dystopian with his claiming of the wilds for humanity, not listening to her concerns, and leaving her behind/trapping her in a life she is not fit for. I want him to either have a big realignment or to end up as almost a bad guy. He just gives me bad vibes.
