This was a reread for me, and a book that I have not picked up since high school. I remember this being on of my favorite books when I was 16 or 17, and thought I would finally give it another go at 25 years old. Of course it didn't have quite the same impact as it once did, considering my tastes have changed and I have read countless more complicated books since. However, it was still enjoyable to revist. There's a lot of heavy topics in this one. Definitely a lot different than your average YA novel. I think the author did an amazing job with portraying how teenagers act and talk. The characters were all very realistic and much like some of the people I knew from my small hometown. Which speaking of which, the world building is great! Whaley did a great job writing about a small town setting. I just wish I could have gotten more detail about it! But I'm biased because I'm a sucker for a good small town setting due to my own nostalgia. Even though I didn't give this book a higher rating, I would still recommend the reaf. It's a quick and easy one that can easily be finished in a day
