I came across this book on instagram and was instantly interested when I saw it was a baseball romance, than when reading the synopsis, I knew I had to read it asap. However it had not released yet, so I was playing the waiting game, but as soon as it was available, I downloaded and read it all in one day.

Nicole Rodrigues is a 'new to me' author and I am happy to add, Curveball will not be the last book of hers I read.

Curveball was both heartbreaking and heartwarming, but overall an easy and beautiful read. I enjoyed every page I read, I only wished there was more interactions with certain characters (can't say without spoiling) but that didnt deter from the fact that it was a 5 star read for me.

I would 100% recommend to all.

Nicole is such a great writer! She really knows how to get you sucked into the story and never want to put it down. That is what happened yet again with this book. I was hooked after just one chapter!!
This story is such a sweet, beautiful, yet heartbreaking story. But don’t worry it ends with a warming love story between two great lovers!

~REVIEW🖋~
The Quick and Dirty: Second-chance baseball romance with a strong female lead and alpha male love interest.

Charlie and Gabe are childhood best friends and high school sweethearts. They have bright futures ahead of them: a full-ride softball scholarship and second round baseball draft pick... until Charlie gets pregnant.

Despite how sure they were of their relationship, it falls apart, leaving each of them scarred and broken. Eighteen years later, fate brings their paths back together. Secrets are revealed, knowledge bombs are dropped and everything that Charlie and Gabe thought they knew is being seen through a new lens. Will they be able to overcome their past to rekindle the flame that never really died or will the secrets kept for the last 18 years be what puts an end to them for good.

Super cute sports romance that was a quick read and left me excited for Savannah's story (book 2). The rekindling part of the relationship felt a smidge rushed (i.e. Charlie was quick to forgive) but that could just be me... I'd want a hell of a lot more groveling. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Loved the small town, Southern feel though. I've been reading a lot of urban stuff lately so it was a nice change. And you know I love me some "y'all" usage! 💖

I received an arc by the author for an honest review

Charlotte and Gabriel know each other since they were babies. They grew up together, became lovers later on.
Gabriel wants to become a professional baseball player, and doesn’t want to let get anything in the way.
18 years later they meet again , unexpectedly. He’s in for a surprise...

I don’t want to spoil anything, so you have to read this book by yourself 😌

It’s a well written story, has a great flow in it.
This was my first book by this author, but not my last 😉

Thank you for giving me the chance to get to know your work!

A sports romance revolving around baseball AND a second chance romance. This is my kryptonite. Nicole Rodrigues is a new to me author and I know that after reading this story that I will continue to read more of her books! I was hooked on this book from the very first page.

Gabriel and Charlotte have been best friends their entire lives and at the start of high school things changed and they started dating. They were each other’s firsts but at 18, life took an unexpected turn that forever changed both of their futures. Flash Forward many, many years fate has brought them back together, but will they be able to move on from the events of the past and go forward?

I’ve been seeing a lot about this book and purchased it the day it was released. I am so glad I didn’t wait any longer to read it, because it was fantastic. The story was heartbreaking and heart warming all at the same time. I found myself rooting for Gabe and Charlie the entire time. They both truly deserved happiness in their lives. It is rare to love the secondary characters as much as the main characters in the story, but every single character in the book is amazing in their own way. I truly can’t wait get more of them in future books!

This story is a quick read, but so worth it. For anyone who loves sports romances and/or second chance romances this is one story that I would highly recommend.

Charlotte aka Charlie Daniels and Gabriel Gavinwood were inseparable as kids and teenagers. They were best friends until they realized that they wanted to be more to each other and neither one were able to keep their hands off each other. They were each others first in everything, including heartbreak when they broke up and Gabriel was drafted to the MLB and was able to carry out his dreams. Charlie, she had hopes and dreams of playing softball at college but had to abandon all of her dreams when she found out she was pregnant with twins. She raised the twins on her own until her son, Devin, was drafted to a minor league team that Gabriel was the coach for.

I usually don't have a problem with the insta and don't judge too hard on it but Gabriel seemed to want to jump right into Charlie's pants once he saw her again and it kind of irked me. His hurt at not knowing about the twins seemed almost non-existent. I know that this seems like a contradiction but when he did meet the kids he did make an effort to try, to bond, and get to know them; I really respected that. That when he was with them he tried, that he wanted to form a relationship. I am struggling with this review because I felt that the writing was good, the trope is one of my favorites but I felt like their coming back together and making peace with the past was off. I still really enjoyed the story and will recommend it to friends but . . . I am not sure, I can't figure it out. Will recommend this book to other readers.

An absorbing, involving romance
4 stars

Nicole Rodrigues is a new author to me - and a fairly new author in general. This appears to be her third book but the first in the Double Play series. But never fear - this novel is completely standalone and has no annoying cliffhangers.

This story is written in first person, present tense - which not being my go-to type of novel, normally takes me a while to get into. Not so with this book - it took about 1 paragraph and I was hooked. Those pages practically turned themselves and at a fast rate, to boot.

We get the story from both Charlotte and Gabriel’s points of view - which really gives us a rounded picture of what the pair are thinking and feeling. However, we only get Charlotte’s point of view for the first wee while and when it came time to swap into Gabe’s head - I didn’t want to go. It says a lot that after such a short while I was 100% behind Charlotte and didn’t want to hear anything about that good-for-nothing former ball player!! Even though I softened my stance towards Gabe as the story moved on, I was still 100% team Charlotte. She was sassy but sweet - peeved at Gabe but still honest about her feelings towards him - good and bad. I loved her Southern charm and the language she used - all y’alls and drawls. But the fact that she was the same age as me yet had 18 year old children blew my mind. I am way too immature to be having grown-up children!

Gabe was a little bit more of an enigma to me. As a boy he was a cutie and as insecure as any other teenage boy; we didn’t really get a sense of his character until he was a grown man. And as a man he was a little bit alpha, a little bit possessive and a lot confused about his feelings and what he should be doing about them. At times he annoyed and frustrated me - and, like Charlotte, I really didn’t want to forgive him at the beginning. But the handsome rascal won me over and I couldn’t help but fall for his persistent charms - particularly in his dedication to Charlie and doing right by her and the twins.

The story was fast paced and I found myself thinking about it and the characters even when I’d put the book down. I wanted to know what happened and I felt involved with the story and the romance. It was never a chore to get back to reading and I just gobbled this book up.

The sexy scenes were on point and just dirty enough to get my pulse racing. Loved how Charlotte was a Southern belle in the streets and a dirty wee minx in the sheets. And of course, the alpha Gabe just had to be an insatiable beast when it came to his woman. Mmm hmm!

There were a few too many typos and grammatical mistakes to not make mention of but I honestly do think it’s down to new author excitement. Try not to let them blight what is an excellent piece of story telling.

While I did say at the beginning that there were no cliffhangers - we are shamelessly teased about what I’m assuming will be the next book in the series (hopefully) featuring Savannah and Jackson. Man, I cannot wait to read that one and uncover all their secrets.

If you love a second-chance romance or want to read about an alpha male working hard to win back his girl - then I would recommend this romance to you. It’s sexy, sassy and just a little bit dirty - great fun to read. Ms. Rodrigues has a new fan in me. 4 stars.
