I absolutely loved this. Such a sweet and compelling story. I loved getting to know this cast of characters, this book had the perfect amount of drama and comedy, and it was easy to root for our protagonists (even though at times I was absolutely exasperated by Ezra’s lack of confidence). I really loved learning about Jewish death practices and found the depth in those scenes to be absolutely beautiful. Such a fun romance, I definitely recommend!

Overall, this was fine. I was hoping this would have more spooky season vibes, but the ghosts don’t actually seem to play much of a role or be super present/active for most of this novel. I love a queer found family, so that was great, but it didn’t feel like we actually got to know the roommates very much since we spent most of the time with Ezra’s family and Jonathan. In general, this book did a lot of “telling” instead of “showing” and that was disappointing because the themes were solid, but the execution was kind of boring and repetitive, especially towards the end. I don’t feel like the author really laid out the reasonings for some of the character or plot points
like what was up with the bonfire fight?? even Ezra’s breakdown afterwards felt a bit out of nowhere to me.
Also, I hate to say it, but Jonathan fell into the “too perfect” love interest category
he seems to have no flaws, they experienced little to no conflict, and Ezra never did anything for him…
all of which’s adds to being pretty boring and unbelievable.

DNF @ 39% - I really wanted to enjoy this but not only do I feel no chemistry between the main character and the man who is supposed to be his love interest, this book is also just a major bummer. stories about found family, grief, and the struggles of being queer are so important and honestly, this book does it well... it's just not what i signed up for.
