I really love the way that Jesus is portrayed, and His relationship with Walker and the world.

This is a short story told in poetry, with each page or so starting a new "poem" that continues the story in blank verse. It was a quick read for me --- about 40 minutes --- and because of that I don't really feel like I had a lot to hold on to. It's a story about a young boy handling grief and the appearance of Jesus to help him along. Mind you, it's a cool Jesus (one poem is entitled "Jesus Dug Into His Brain Freeze"), so I think this would be meaningful even if you're averse to organized religion. A nice story -- almost parable like in some ways --- but not to deep.

Fans of God Went To Beauty School will enjoy this light hearted, but deeply thoughtful, novel in verse.

Heart-breaking, realistic, painful, and raw.

This was a very short book, very quick read. Written in verse. It made me laugh more than once. I am rating it based on students who want a quick read.

Loved it. A soft and quiet book that packs an emotional punch.

Told in gorgeous verse, this is the story of a teenage boy whose brother has died. Like many people, he asks Jesus for help -- and to his surprise, Jesus shows up, snarky and irreverent and everything he should be. I'm not religious at all, but this book affected me a great deal. It was beautiful and poignant. This is the Jesus I got out of Christian history class. I recommend it to anyone who's dealing with loss.

The book coaltown Jesus is about a boy trying to help his mother get through the death of his brother Noah. Along the way he meats Jesus and and a dog named shadow. Jesus, shadow, and the boy Walker try to help Walker and his mom see how to get over the death of a family member, with a humorous twist. This book was really good, and also a quick read. I would recommend this book for a really good humorous fast read.
