I’ve been searching for a book that manages to hit the right tone between funny and emotional, light and dark (and that isn’t Otessa because I’ve read all of her!). This was it. Engrossing, real-seeming characters, animal imagery, and weird sex stuff abounds. Now need to go back and read Beagin’s previous work!

My feelings on this book are a bit complicated; there were some aspects I really liked and some I really didn’t. Unfortunately overall, this made me reluctant to finish the book and it was hard to get through the last two thirds of it after the first part was so disappointing. It didn’t really get better for me either, it just felt like nothing was happening and by the end of the book I just felt relieved it was over. This upsets me, as I enjoyed the writing style as well as the characters, but it felt like such a waste of time despite the insane amount of potential. However, I can definitely see why people adore this book, and the parts I liked were good enough to get me to finish it, so clearly it was decent enough overall.
