Mmmm I wish I liked this more. And besides the few odd comments about Cara’s body and feelings about other women’s bodies at the beginning I really did like this book. If the ending had been different, I would have given it more like 4.5 stars but honestly, that third act reveal 😬 yikes. I wouldn’t have forgiven Ryan, but ig I love Cece and Schmidt from New Girl so maybe I can accept that Ryan and Cara end up together.

I don't mind a book with messy characters - if we actually see those characters have grown from their mistakes. Unfortunately, we didn't see that here. Ryan is such a sh*tty main male love interest. From putting down Kara's profession as a romance novelist to
being secretly engaged and cheating on his fiancee and Kara
, throw this man in the trash. I thought the book started off decent enough. I'm into a good second chance romance book with a bit of a enemies to lovers vibe. The book fell apart after his secret was revealed. I just couldn't root for Ryan/Kara anymore. I was actively rooting for Kara/
Liam by the end
. It's a shame Kara chose to stay in that cycle of messiness instead of wanting better for herself

What a freaking whirlwind. This book had so many twists and turns, and it all happened so quickly. There are some seriously messed up relationships in this book, and a lot of emotional growth and baggage. I really think the author tried to pack too much into it, making everything feel rushed; there was info-dumping all over the place. It definitely read like a first novel, but I would be interested in checking out this author's next book because there is definite potential.

When Ryan and Kara were good, they were really good, but the rest of the time...not so much. I still have conflicted feelings over the ending, and how the last fourth or so of the book played out. This book is definitely an interesting ride, and although it's not the fluffy romance it's marketed as, it does have its own merits.
