This book was… strange. It made me mildly uncomfortable.

DNF @ chapter 8

I don't think I can finish this. I'm starting to feel uncomfortable like each page is starting to look like he's grooming her even if she just turned 18. Like why does it look like it pleases him that she's wearing his daughter's clothes and was more than happy to let her sleep in his kid's room?

Not yucking someone's yum here though! Because I do enjoy reading age gap and/or daddy kink books. I've also read some good DDLG books but this gave me the ick big time. Too bad because I remember liking Sugar Daddies.

If this is your first read of a ddlg leaning book ever, please pick a better one, I highly suggest going for books by Laylah Roberts. This is a very poor representation.

For a book with no explicit pregnancy boyyyy do they talk a lot about having babies for a 290 page book 💀. Nick became very pretentious with major “us against them” behaviour towards the end which was frustrating to read.

The format and the writing style are not for me. It’s written in present tense first person and there’s a lot of gaps between things - instead of meaningful dialog it’s replaced with “I tell him so”, I am entirely sick of that sentence by the time I’ve DNF’d this book good god.

I did like the first portion of the book, Nick was a good daddy, Laine was very appealing as a character, I actually really liked it despite the writing style not being for me. I think half of the issue was the author trying to make plot points with no direction and the other half was trying to make Nick’s past seem as convincingly traumatic as it was, but instead it made him uncomfortably unrealistic and an unfair dom at points.

It really sucks seeing books poorly execute ddlg/daddy kink when there’s already a lot of unfair stigma around them and while this book did capture some of it really well and it was very likeable, there were parts I just couldn’t vibe with.

In the end unfortunately I DNF’d - not because of the content directly or the writing, but one scene specifically hit a bit too hard to home for me and I had to call it quits, otherwise I would’ve gotten to the end.
