Monsterfuckers: it's fade to black, in case that's a deal breaker for ya.

Probably the most likeable set of not-fucked-up main characters I've read in quite a while. I like them both, I felt actual evolution and friendship between them. Not super high stakes, but it was there! There were some secondary characters that Did Not Develop in a huge way, but I felt that that fit their character VERY well, if that makes sense.

The world, the magic(??) were not uninteresting, and the Trollis culture I found fascinating.

To echo another another review(s), it started out really interesting, slowed a bit in the middle (I found it okay, not tough to read) and then at the end it got a lil wild and just.... ended. All of a sudden. Like, finished up in a couple pages, and then you flip over and the Acknowledgements are there like.... what? That's what has dragged my rating down a ton.

A lovely stand-alone novel.

Great world-building with interesting characters. Some inconsistencies with character comparative sizing, but nothing that can't be overlooked. The lack of gratitude from the council at two different points was a little too convenient, but that's just my opinion.

Overall, a well-worth read.
