This book had an interesting premise, and I liked a lot of things about it, but ultimately it was a little bit disappointing.
Lark was a very engaging heroine, and Azmar was a lovely love interest for her. I particularly liked that he was a bit of an outlier amongst the trollis, with his soft, kind ways (much like Lark was an outlier amongst humans with her power). I liked their romance but often felt as though some important moments were glossed over and not given the emotional depth they should’ve had.
I’m not sure if it’s because Lark is so young but the tone read a bit YA, which isn’t really my cup of tea. I also felt as though the worldbuilding was a bit lacking. The ending felt a bit rushed — I would’ve liked to see how Lark and Azmar actually settled into Tayler’s township, rather than ending on their decision to leave.
