This was pretty good once the story picked up. The world was almost interesting, but I don't generally get into the whole steampunkish aesthetic, even when the steam is replaced by magic. It was also a bit busy for a short story, with different types of magic of different legal status, living dinosaurs, automatons, and flying ships. But the characters and the story were good.
