Just as enchanting as I remembered!

I hadn't read this book since I was a kid and it brought back a lot of memories. I remember that I tried so hard to be Dickon and charm wild animals. Though I did collect a lot of animals when I was young, even wild ones, only box turtles and toads were reliably docile. In spite of this, I was quite sure that I would be a natural with horses if given the chance.

I remember that I also tried to like jumping rope, like Mary. I even got one with a nice cotton cord and wooden handles, but I never got very good at it. There was only one area, the wooden walkway to the door at the front of the house, that was smooth enough to jump rope on.

I'm glad I remembered all these things. You know a story is good when it inspires hours of play.

Nostalgic read of my mother's favorite Burnett. I'm partial to Little Lord Fauntleroy myself but this is certainly a sweet one.

Review:
⭐️ 4/5

A very charming read which can be easily enjoyed over 100 years later (as long as you can overcome some of the parts which were written due to the era). It is a heartwarming story of opening your heart to new experiences and helping one another to flourish. I enjoyed how the children understood the positive things that happened to them as a sort of magic which added to the wonder of the Secret Garden. A real story of friendship and found family which is magical and captivating.

As most classics, this was so boring I'll never understand how anyone - let alone children - could enjoy this. This basically no plot, zero conflict, and the accent makes it difficult to read.
