I really enjoyed this book. My expectations were regularly subverted, I liked the worldbuilding, and the dialogue often made me chuckle.

It is a flawed book however. The portrayal of women is poor. There are occasional homophobic slurs which are unacceptable. And there were some major plot holes, which included an overpowered magician, fights being won that should definitely have been lost and characters introduced who had no pay off at all.

Overall, an enjoyable read.
