Another great read in the Gregor Reinhardt series. No longer at war, Gregor rejoins the Berlin police and must find a killer of retired airmen while navigating post-war Berlin. In addition to being a great detective story, The Divided City is a history lesson on the politics, factions and allied forces that defined Berlin after the war.

The following is my mere opinion of this fictional work.

We will start off with what did I love about the book?
1. History was well-researched.
2. The plot twists.
3. The way the story ended.
4. There were parts of this novel that flowed like water.
5. I loved reading from a different perspective of a German detective.

What didn't I like about this book?
1. I ponder over investigative techniques the detective used.
2. It did become a tedious read at times.
3. There were clunky and wonky sentences that left me scratching my head.
4. Plot holes. One major one with the son and I hope Mr. McCallin clears it up in the future.
5. I thought in the beginning, he should have used ligature marks and not hypostasis.
6. I don't need an outline of characters beforehand. Let me figure out the characters for myself. If you are going to put in an introduction to your characters, please put it in the back of the book. That's just my 2 cents.

Now for my personal thoughts.
Why did I rank it a four out of five instead of three out of five as I originally was going to rate it. The author's personal notes. That meant more to me than anything. It showed titles of other nonfiction books, which I intend on reading. Books, I would have never known about. I appreciate this author for backing up his line of thinking. It did offer another perspective of WWII. It was an enjoyable read and I do recommend this book to other readers. Thank you, Mr. McCallin. I'm so glad I didn't DNF this book.
