'Sloppy Wants a Hug' is a really cute story about two best friends called Dewdrop and Sloppy. Humans, this story is 100% the cutest children’s book I have read to date. The character of Sloppy reminds me so much of myself and I love all the ways they try to get Dewdrop to hug them. But I also love the character of Dewdrop, they’re sassy and sweet and just overall brilliant.

The illustrations are so cute and for some apparent reason, they remind me of the Snoopy cartoons my Dad loves. The illustrations made this always sweet story so much sweeter, and if you ever need a book for your niece, nephew, child, or grandchild then I would highly recommend this one.

The lexis (the format and language structure) is truly brilliant and I love the flow of the story, particularly because the story is so short. The author has done an amazing job of creating the flow and I’m so so happy that I had the opportunity to read this book.

Thank you so much @northsouthbooks for sending me this book to read, I have loved every second of it and I’m so excited to share it with my future classes.

'Sloppy Wants a Hug' by Sean Julian is the cutest picture book I've read in a while. It made me smile and laugh out loud.

Sloppy, the tree dragon, wants a hug, but Dewdrop, the sprite, isn't about to give him one for good reason. Sloppy tries to get Dewdrop to hug him by acting sad, or bringing her gifts like sticks, rocks, and small woodland creatures. Dewdrop won't relent, but she will hug the woodland creatures. Will Sloppy find a way to get a hug and will Dewdrop forget the reason why she doesn't want to hug Sloppy?

This story is just adorable. The punchline is hilarious and the illustrations are just so cute. I think little readers will love this story of friendship and laugh like I did.

I received a review copy of this ebook from North South Books Inc. and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

A super cute story about a Tree Dragon who wants a hug and the little girl who doesn't want to give him one....though, not for a reason you might initially think! Reminds me of one sided conversations I've had with my dog!

Really cute picture book about a messy dragon who wants a hug and the little fairy girl who isn't giving hugs. Excellent book for read aloud sessions and one on one readings.

Sloppy wants a hug, but Dewdrop refuses to give him one. Sloppy's feelings are very hurt. He does everything he can to win Dewdrop over. Why doesn't Dewdrop want to give Sloppy a hug? This is another cute and fun book about Sloppy the tree dragon. I would have liked it more if Dewdrop had recognized that Sloppy was sad and explained why she did not want to hug him, because although we want to reinforce consent and bodily autonomy, we also want to reinforce kindness toward our friends. I can understand why Dewdrop would not want to hug Sloppy due to the ending I won't spoil, but poor Sloppy had to watch her hug all the other animals and was made to feel like he had to earn affection from his friend rather than just deserving it because she cared about him. I think if you're going to read this book with your child, please have a conversation about what could have been done differently by the characters to avoid Sloppy feeling hurt by his friend.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

The illustrations are great, but Dewdrop (the hug-withholding fairy) is totally a dick.
