The reading journey felt long--as it bore the tale of Heaven Leigh Casteel from when she was 10 until she was 17. Years of poverty, hardship, abuse. It was shocking to read about her life; Andrews kept churning curveball after curveball that surprised me every few pages.
It was painful to see Heaven--sweet, pure Heaven--lose her innocence through the years. How everyone kept using her as a pawn for their own disgusting, selfish needs. And how she still remains brave, loyal, and hardworking.
The ending was a bit anticlimactic, especially compared to the rest of the book, but I'm hoping that it gets better for her in the coming books. But who am I kidding? Brontësque VC Andrews could never write a happy book.

De verdad la historia es muy triste y me atrapó totalmente.
Toca temas muy delicados y la autora la hace muy bien aunque noo me gustó que pasarán tantas tragedias juntas.
Fuera de ello, disfrute bastante la lectura.

Word cannot describe this book. There are twists, there are turns…there certainly was tears! My own, just big ugly tears. Heaven, the main MC, is strong and loyal. She is devoted to the family she has helped raise when all the adults have failed. Right when her life turns for the worst, the hits keep hitting, yet her hardships make her spine like iron!
First line of chapter one tells the best story.
If Jesus died almost two thousand years ago to save us all from the worst we had in us, he’d failed in our area, except on Sundays between the hours of ten A.M. and noon. At least in my opinion.
THANK YOU FOR THE BOOK HANGOVER, VC Andrews.
