Night is the abridged version of Wiesel's exponentially-longer manuscript. Throughout the work, I found myself considering that perhaps it had been too abridged. There were many times at which seemingly majorly events were nearly brushed by, while at other times, events that appeared to be of a lesser importance seemed to get rather thorough descriptions. Additionally, while it may be due to the fact that it is a work in translation, I found the general sentence structure and language usage to be overly simple. Nonetheless, this was still a very thought-provoking work that I found to have provided insight to the atrocities faced by Jewish people during WWII.

Perspective. Obviously this was a tough book to read, though surprisingly readable. I've read Holocaust related material before, though its been years and years and years. I discovered this book on Goodreads, it is not one I remember ever having been mentioned. The idea that this short memoir would be part of any high school curriculum is not something I would have thought of. What I knew of the Holocaust, I read on my own. Or got from various classes at the temple. Or youth group. Or my parents collection of books. Man being evil to many for no reason. How long does it take to get over that, and how could you ever.
