ehhhhh i guess i had a good time? idk maybe i’m too old for this

some parts were so repetitive. i got tired of reading about how the girls hated tierney pretty fast.

but the end kind of ruined the whole thing for me.
i really didn’t like the tierney had been dreaming of her child. idk it just didn’t seem to match her character, so the surprise pregnancy that she was apparently happy about kind of came out of left field. and to have absolutely no discussion of how tierney felt about the pregnancy, when she was adamant about how much she didn’t want to be a wife, seemed strange.

Went into this expecting a bit more survival and a lot less love story, but overall I still enjoyed it.
Quick read, finished it in one day.
I do like that at the end of the book the main character hasn't magically fixed everything in society through the power of gutsy honesty, and that it takes a more realistic approach of showing small steps towards change instead.

there’s a lot i liked and an ok amount i didn’t. the beginning is rough, parts of the middle feel shallow, and the ending rings a bit hollow, but the breathless pace and tense scenes work well and a lot of the individual moments made me shiver. i’m left wanting more both positively and negatively.

At first, I thought this was going to be a heavy-handed YA-with-a-message which can be hard to read even when you agree with the message. But after I realized this wasn’t a dystopian not like other girls love triangle, I really enjoyed it.

The ending was very satisfying, and I liked that it confronted change within a system vs. outside it. Also - so fast-paced! I read the first 300 pages in 1 day and finished the whole thing in 2 days.

But let’s talk about the ending? Who else was like, is her pregnancy a twist ending or did the author just completely forget to write in the details? Did I black out for some key hints? I know they kept calling here a wh*re, but they were throwing purity culture slurs around quite a bit. And did she get pregnant from having sex one time? ughhhhhhhhh. Has anyone noticed that so many female main characters who don’t think they’re special are actually the MOST fertile? That trope is so grating. I realize that Stockholm syndrome is probably the biggest cliché here, but somehow that is more palpable to me than fertility while under duress and recovering from starvation.
