Har mest høyrd om denne som ein bok amerikanere må lese på high school. Fint for dei det. Solid sak. Kort og god. Litt lei av at den høge alltid er den enkle og den litle er den smarte*. SKJERPINGS JOHN STEINBECK!!! Det blir for enkelt. Og faktisk litt krenkende for meg. Hadde eg hatt twitter skulle han fått høyre det.

Okay so Lennie is probably a bit slow...really slow, maybe he's the R- word but I won't say it, and honestly I never thought anyone could write about a platonic male friendship to this level of dedication that even when George knows they will kill Lennie he couldn't bring himself to watch anyone else hurt him!!

Read this in high school. I had high expectations because of the hype around this book. Didn't blow me away. Wasn't a huge fan of the storyline. I'm going to try and re-read this as an adult and see how I feel about it.

Powerful and meaningful. Really one of the great American works of art.

This is a tiny and a powerful book. In my opinion , a very heart-breaking book set in the times of The Great Depression.
We follow George and Lennie , as they move to get work in a ranch. Lennie is developmentally challenged and George is often exasperated with having to keep a lookout for him.
They chase the American dream where George and Lennie just want to get enough money to buy a piece of land , grow their own crops and live off of that land and its produce ( Lennie just wants to pet some rabbits). Although Lennie is an innocent guy , his strength that causes him to unknowingly kill beings weaker than himself ( a pup , Curley’s wife ).

Eventually, it gets too much for George , and he realizes that the other farm hands would not forgive Lennie this time , he takes matter into his own hands and kills Lennie. I also see this a way out for himself - he was so tired of being the responsible one all the time , running away from stable jobs because of Lennie’s unwitting faux pas’s and always having to keep an eye on him so that he doesn’t get into trouble that he finally gave up and spared him jail / murder at the hands of others.
