I read this because it's assigned reading, and though it's meaningful and important, it is seriously messed up. I can't say that it's the creepiest book I've read, because I've read Lord of the Flies, but it is still bad. However, there were some good things. Steinbeck utilizes dialect really well, and the relationship between George and Lennie is heartwarming, until you know...stuff happens and you realize certain things about Lennie. That's when it goes sideways.

My boyfriend recommended this to me. This is the only book he said he could remember reading in school. I laughed when I saw the size of it. I laughed at how it only took me a little over an hour to read it.
However, it was one of the better classics I've read. I loved how quick paced it was. I loved how it was short and to the point.
It packs powerful emotion in it and at the end you just kind of sit there not knowing how to feel.
When it came to the characters, I didn't really care for any of them. Obviously because I couldn't relate to their lives.
I had a hard time choosing between 3 and 4 stars for this. I thought it was really good but I wouldn't really rush to read it again. I'm sure the story will stick with me forever though, so I finally decided to give it 4 stars.
It's one of the better classics I've read and it's a good quick read. Sometimes you need a quick read, especially one that'll make you think.

A phenomenal book that I feel will not reach its potential for you if you are not reading it with an audiobook!

This book was as great a read this time through as it was the very first time I read it, (many years ago). Just a beautifully simple story..but one so heartbreaking ..and tragic....It is a quick read at only 103 pages...can be read in one sitting....Loved the story...just loved it.

This story gets an extra star because my mental image of George Milton is now that of Gary Sinise.

This short, easy read is packed with poignant lessons about life. Though the book is only 100 pages, it is described in enough detail that I was fully connected to the main characters.
Those that enjoyed Mary Shelley's Frankenstein will also love this book.

An incredible work of literature that discusses free will, and what it truly means to be accountable.

The mark of a great story: you know it, and you know you know it, but it still gets you.
