yessss delicious

this is! a very well done romance about and FBI agent and a Soviet agent on an investigation together and also road-tripping and also falling in love. it's so good. my favourite part is Gennady, it's everything about Gennady, and his dynamic with Daniel is perfect?? I can't think of good book words. I really enjoyed the first part the most, when they're young and first connecting, I liked the other parts where they're older, too, but it's definitely a different kind of tone.

but honestly the dynamic, the dialogue, the backdrop, the writing, very good, strong recommend

I liked the political/logistical/historical parts of it. And that cover!! The story and the premise were good, I just didn't like how it was written, if that makes sense.

conflicted. i was really into this but then was slapped with a fifteen year time jump that just really took me out of the story. yeah sure i know they were spies in the cold war and it wasn't realistic for them to get together but i don't care about realism bro it's romance. still really enjoyed the first 60% though.

I just want to say that if you thinking about reading this book, do not go into it thinking it is romantic suspense or even expecting a lot of plot. This is a much more quiet exploration of two men falling in love in a world that does not want to be together. There are time jumps. There are frustrating moments where you so desperately want these two to make it work. It does not follow the traditional plot structure that a seasoned romance reader may come to expect.

However, I really think this is a beautiful love story, and Gennady and Daniel are incredibly real and heartbreaking and interesting to read about, and I think their story is one that will stick with me for a bit.

I'm speechless, this was supposed to be a silly romance to read when i don't feel like using my brain too hard, but it. was. so. good. The little details, the characters, it was all so cozy and sad and cute and anjsixksxoxkjdj

I wanted to like this more than I did.

Super angsty, slow burn story told in 3 parts: the MCs are Soviet and US spies during and after the Cold War who cross paths and fall in complicated love.

The story dragged, and the middle section was especially unsatisfying, but good period detail.

Got a recommendation for it I wasn't really sure about but also got it for free through kindle unlimited so I decided to try it. Very mixed bag of sections that I didn't care about at all, and sections that were really nice. I had looked up some reviews though and a lot of them said part 1 is by far the best and they didn't like the other two parts, for some it even ruined the entire book. So I just stopped after part 1 / 65% :P (after I had already skimmed a fair amount, to be honest xD)
