I really enjoyed this! The art is gorgeous + the sigils are a lot of fun to look at + I love all these tropes about a rogue, unpolished gem who gets initiated into the sophisticated world of magic, dragged into its dark secrets, and becoming friends and frenemies with her co-apprentices.

Mon premier manga! C'était correct. C'est que, je ne sais pas si j'aime les mangas ou non... j'ai trouvé ça un peu bébé. Et des fois j'ai de la misère à comprendre les images

Are only the chosen allowed to do magic?

All her life, Coco has dreamed of one thing: being a witch. Ever since she received a mysterious book of spells and a fancy pen at the market one day as a child, she had longed to decide the magic within.

Unfortunately, witches are not taught but born.

So, Coco believes she had no chance at ever fulfilling her dream. She can only watch as magic is performed and can only bask in the awe of seeing magical contraptions and creatures. She can never participate in that world.

At least, so she thinks.

When a witch comes to town one day and stops in at her family’s seamstress store, Coco finally gets an opportunity to watch a witch in action — secretly, of course. Witches’ magical arts are not supposed to be witnessed by the unchosen. For good reason, apparently.

When Coco watches this witch perform magic, she realizes that magic IS something you can learn! Just like how she learned to cut fabric and take need to thread. That pen received all those years ago was actually a wand — one she can use to trace sigils from that book of spells she got all those years ago.

Unfortunately, when Coco attempts to cast one of these spells, she quickly realizes that while anyone may be able to cast magic, there is most certainly an art to doing so. The spell quickly goes awry and her mother gets caught up in the fallout, turning to a crystalline stone. That visiting witch, Qifrey, is able to stop the spell from claiming anyone else but is unable to undo what happened to Coco’s mom without the original spell book — which was lost in the chaos. Luckily, Coco had memorized the book from cover to cover! She just can’t make sense bb of what she knows.

Which means only one thing: Coco must become a witch so she can fix what mistakes she has made.

This is such a delightful little story with such an enchanting cast of characters set in the most quaint and beautiful of worlds. The illustrations in this piece are truly breathtaking. This is such a beautiful manga!

Additionally, the characters are so lovely and the story has such an engaging plot so far! I like that this is a magical mystery that has yet to give anything away about it.

Definitely recommend for anyone who loves a good fantasy story full of a dynamic cast of female characters and lots of intrigue! Looking forward to reading more~
