LITERALLY THE WORST BOOK I'VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE. I hated it on so many levels. I don't think I've ever ACTUALLY hated a book before?! Just horrible. Horrible horrible horrible.

Like many (many many) Austen retellings, this book is soft, fluffy, and doesn't require any serious thinking. It's a 3.5, an easy beach read with some fun wordplay, but nothing more.

This novel is really fun! It’s a nice take on Pride and Prejudice. Some of the characters weren’t exactly as I would have imagined them in a contemporary setting, but I still enjoyed the story.

I did have fun mocking it with my sister, who was mainly horrified by everything I described.

The way Curtis Sittenfeld talks about black people... get help, for real. She keeps bringing up race like, 'the man was black' 'adopt a black baby' 'black woman comforts me in park' 'the woman was chinese (maybe)' and then just drops it completely. Everyone else is clearly white, so why even mention it right? Weird!

Anyway, there are better reviews that describe my thoughts on this book exactly, so I leave you with this: Jane Austen is very popular in Pakistan, a country where people regularly marry their cousins and have inheritance disputes. Eat your heart out Bridgerton! Regency England lives on! And it's bad!!

I really enjoyed this book! I’m a huge pride and prejudice fan and I’m not sure why it took me so long to finally get around to the modern retelling from the Austen project. I enjoyed all the way the authors kept events of the original plot and the personality of the characters, but in a modern telling and that didn’t feel forced. I raced through the book excited to see how the next event from the original would be portrayed. I would recommend for any Pride and Prejudice fan or alone as a good rom com novel!

Cheesy, but I liked it. Funny characters, reality tv...it was a nice break from reading and having to think :-)

3.5/5 stars. Cute modernization that had me chuckling a few times. Not my favorite modernization, but I feel like as I could appreciate/like it more as I reread in the future. Review to come!

I have read many re-workings of classics, with reservations. I enjoyed this far better than most. If read without thinking Pride and Prejudice, it's a cracking read.

I think the author has cleverly written her own version of events in modern day Cincinnati rather than scurrilously assuming a contemporary Austen contender. She plays with the cast of characters rather than painfully following the original, which, why would you mess with?
