I'm not sure whether the English translation really does this book justice. I also disliked the way the female characters were written (honestly 99.9% of them overly sexualised). I know that might be a trope of noir, perhaps, but it wasn't the book for me because of it.

I found this book pretty boring. The mystery wasn’t very compelling and it didn’t really do much with its characters. I’m fine with cliches in a mystery but when nothing is compelling on either the plot or character front, I lose interest. I was also never really shocked or repulsed by the “edgggy” elements. Those also felt pretty bland to me. I think there are popular romcoms that have more interesting depictions of BDSM
