I spotted this gorgeous book at the library and of course couldn't resist bringing it home with me. The inside is just as pretty believe me. With gorgeous big photographs that make it seem like the animal is ready to leap or walk out or illustrations in a very pretty style. We get around 3 facts per animal (or group of animals) and those were written in an interesting and fun way that just made you soak it up in your brain like a sponge. I loved reading about all the different kinds of animals from bugs to fish to mammals and marsupials. A lot of the facts were already familiar to me, but I still found a couple of new ones.
So, do you like animals and pretty pictures? Be sure to read this book!

3.5. Beautiful book with a lot of fun, colorful and interesting animals to learn about. I did feel some animals’ pages were lacking a bit more in intrigue than others and that, overall, I craved a bit more information or a few more facts about them. I found a lot of my own favorite animals in here (and maybe some new ones) and hope this book inspires others to enjoy learning about the animals of our world.

Beautiful illustrations, but this is pretty insubstantial for a DK book. I also really hated the way that the animals were organized--vaguely largest to smallest? This sort of book, no matter how young the audience, should be organized taxonomically, or at the very least alphabetically.

This book isn't what I thought it was. I wasn't disappointed. What it is: a beautifully illustrated book about animals, and some astonishing things about these animals. It is a gorgeous book inside and out. It is best enjoyed with a young person to see and learn about animals on our beautiful planet.
