This started off so great and then I felt like it completely unraveled and I could barely finish, quite a feat for such a short book.

I adored Fates and Furies. I thought Monsters of Templeton was perfection.
And Matrix? Despite my love of Groff and historical(-esque) fiction, I thought this offering was just...okay. Gorgeous writing as usual and while I appreciate the concept of the book in theory, in practice? Eh. Didn't quite work for me.
Three Stars = Perfectly Fine, Wouldn't Re-Read

Unbelievably, somehow, so compelling. A book about starving nuns? And yet. It’s been sounding in me ever since I finished a month ago. A stoic portrait of a woman who follows her vision, expectations be damned.

It had a pretty good rating, so i started with enthousiasm. The blur on the back talks about female warriors and a prioress who teaches swordwork. Well it was not about female warriors. It was about a woman, who comes to the abbes and becomes prioress. She changes how things are done and gets different reactions for it. The beginning was okay, but I had to force myself to read it after a 100 pages. There are better books out there.

Didn’t really get along with the writing style, often felt disoriented by the scene changes and would have to read a few paragraphs before I realised what was fully going on.

Felt very boring in the end, and there is no progression in the plot in the final part.
