Big no thanks from me. There was running subtext of women being dominated or rescued by men and little to no character development took place.

The main character is impossibly bland and frustrating. She is put through countless toxic or downright abusive situations. Both potential love interests are toxic and abusive. Her family is neglectful and abusive. This classifies, at best, as a dark romance. If you are already unimpressed by the offerings of that genre you will not have a good time reading this. The first sixty percent of the book is boring and toxic. After that it is no longer as boring but triple toxic.
The audiobook narrator does good with the material she is given but this is definitely not a tale for me. People say the next book is better and this is the worst book in the series but I am not giving this author a second chance.

I want to start this review off by saying that the full-cast audiobook is the only correct way to read this book. It is so dramatic and fun, literally listening to a movie. There's water running when water is mentioned, and different narrators for everyone.

This book has been on my shelf for years, and I haven't picked it up because of Maas's problematic traits. I am, however, reading my entire tbr for a series on Tiktok (and because I am a book hoarder) and thought, "well, I already bought the book."  I won't purchase the rest of the series, even if I might continue reading it.

The story itself is alright. I like the magic system, and the worldbuilding went by quickly. I like that it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling (at least I think it is, it feels very similar), and the characters are (for the most part) alright. The villain is great, although the curse is very cliche.

Our main character Feyra is the luckiest idiot ever. She goes again and again against what Tamlin and Rhysand are telling her is safe, and somehow she lives through it all.

I must say that this book felt very sexual-assaulty. Feyra almost gets gang-raped in the hallway and thinks the guy that "saves" her is so sketchy that she runs inside. When she is safe, Tamlin goes to her and bites her ???

Idk yet if I'll continue the series. At the moment, I am content with knowing what I know about the world and the story, but the next 2 books are also available as the full-cast audiobook, so I might turn to them on my next run.

This book was…wow. I’m not into fantasy based storylines that much but this book might’ve started a new love for it all cause it was so good. In the beginning i felt like it was taking a while to really get into it but once it got a 1/4 of the way through, it started picking up the pace. I liked the whole world building and the characters, really liked the humour that was sprinkled in it too. there is certain themes in the book that may be triggering but overall it’s very good and i can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Loosely based on Beauty and the Beast, a Court of Thorns and Roses is an enjoyable new spin on the faerie genre and is done rather well. While the book felt a little predictable at times, the characters are well-written, and I have the benefit of a few years of hindsight, so I didn't get too attached to certain characters before going into the second and third books. It could definitely do with some more diversity and subversion of the typical "faeries are gorgeous, dangerous, etc." myth/stereotype.

I gave A Court of Thorns and Roses a 3.75/5 as I enjoyed the book and am reading the rest of the series, but I've read better books, and this one felt predictable at times—especially the riddle at the end, goodness.

I loved it! Immediately picked up the second one. enjoyed the hints at beauty and the beast. A few things is with the amount of characters I would’ve liked more diversity in appearance, and it seemed like a big world to tackle and I want to explore it more. A pet peeve was using “male” and “female” to describe everyone but that’s a personal preference
