Cute but a little frustrating in the way the thing that makes this story unique—circus camp—is completely eclipsed by Boy Drama and Mean Girl Drama. Oh, it's doing a lot of things right; I like that Jennifer is by and large able to respond to the various pressures in a level-headed manner, the side characters are fun, and although I don't think there's any racial diversity there are at least a couple of queer characters with significant roles.

But give me more circus, please! I really only have the barest idea of what Jennifer's routine looked like, because it was skimmed over every. single. time. she rehearsed or performed. Meanwhile, there was lots (and lots and lots) of Bitchy Girl Is Bitchy, with a smattering of mournful looks between Jennifer and her temporarily inaccessible love interest...so, still cute, but I really could have used more circus routine and less routine YA.
